Jalal outside is thinking of something when a Soldier informs that Jodha wants to meet you. She comes in angry. Jalal ask what happened? You didn’t greet me nameste? Did I do something? Jodha says you didn’t, but your half brother Adham did. Jalal says he is my Aunt’s son, what he did? Jodha says you are equally responsible if he did something, Adham is misusing his powers to outrage the modesty of an innocent Servant. She says whether it’s a Queen or Servant, every one has prestige as a woman and how will you protect your people when your Servants in this Palace are not safe?
Jalal ask meaning? Jodha tells him everything about Tasnim. Jalal orders a Soldier to tell Adham to be in Court tomorrow. Jodha thanks him and says I expected this from you. She leaves.
Maham says to Adham that why you came in Jodha’s way? He says I didn’t, but she did. Maham says Jodha will tell Jalal. Adham says I have won many war for Jalal, he will not do anything.
A Soldier comes and informs that Jalal wants Adham to be present in Court tomorrow. Maham says look, he listened to Jodha, I told Ruqaiya to beware of Jodha earlier, but she didn’t listen and now, she is suffering, you will suffer as well, as Jalal has started to listen to Jodha but you only know how to flirt with young girls!
Adham says I will not listen to any punishment now and will not accept it. I like Tasnim and I want her. Maham says you can’t do anything, I have to do something so that you will get that girl and Jalal won’t also give you punishment. She says what I am going to tell you, only say this tomorrow in Court. Their plan is muted.
In the morning, Jalal comes to Court, everyone is present. Jalal says usually, we listen to common people in open Court, but today, it’s about my family. Jodha has complaint. He ask her to tell what it is.
Jodha says it’s about Adham, she tells her complaint. Jalal says I don’t want the decision to be doubted, so I am asking Maham to take the decision. Jodha is stunned. Jalal says she is his Mother, but I expect fair justice from her.
Maham says I will give fair justice, Maham ask him to stand in front of Jalal and I am not your mother here but the Chief Minister. Adham says I want to say something, Maham permits him. Adham says it’s true that I like Tasnim, she is having a poor life. I want to take care of her. All are stunned. Flashbacks shows that Maham told him to accept his love and they also have to show Ruqaiya that Maham is more experienced in politics. FB ends.
Adham says is it wrong to love someone? I want to marry her as I am childless, besides our religion also allows it that the man could have 4 marriages. He further says that I will marry her at any haq meher (money that groom gives to bride) she wants. All are stunned, while Jalal is confused.
Maham ask the Priest whether what Adham is saying is a sin? The Priest says no. Maham says I don’t find anything wrong if Adham wants to do the Nikah/marriage with Tasnim, but first, I will call Tasnim’s Parents.
They come in Court, Maham ask whether they have any problem with this marriage? They say no, not at all, and we are happy that Adham is making our Queen from a Servant.
Jodha tries to interrupt, but Hamida stops her saying it’s against the Court rules, Jalal sees it.
Maham says after talking to the Priests, Adham and Tasnim’s Parents, my decision is… She ask for permission from Jalal to tell her decision, but Jalal says the decision will be given tomorrow. He leaves the Court. Maham is angry. Jodha is confused.
Jodha comes to Jalal’s room and says I want to say something. Jalal says I saw you wanted say something in Court, but Hamida Bano didn’t allow you, so I knew you will come. Tell what you want. Jodha confronts Jalal and asks him if a man had the rights to forcefully marry a girl without her consent?? Could he force her to marry him even if she was unwilling or hated him?? Would he use his powerful position or his influence to force her Parents to forcefully marry the girl to him?? Even if he knows she might hate him all her life!! Jalal is surprised. But Jodha demands his reply/opinion, she says for relations to be made, there should not be force but love.
Jalal says you said these lines with passion and I know about its depth, but it’s not about human thought but law. Jodha says I know your thought that a powerful man can control anything, any person and can win anything, but in marriage, it’s about winning love, winning heart. Jodha says sorry to say this, but king has this immunity that he can do anything, he is not bounded by law.
Jalal says I know a King’s work and for me, my people are important so trust me, I will give fair decision. Jodha says I am satisfied now. She is about to leave, but turns and says I don’t hate you now. Jalal is confused.
Jodha says I used to hate you, but now, no more, as you trust me and I have started trusting your decisions and justice, Jalal is pleasantly surprised. She leaves. Jalal can’t stop thinking about her trusting words and that I don’t hate you now. He says what is this feeling inside? This feeling is when I get happy, I felt this feeling when I got the news that I am going to be a father, but why am I happy today, why? (ishq hai woh ehsas plays).
Adkha Khan sees Jalal in thoughts and goes to him. He ask Jalal whether there is any problem? Jalal says life plays strange games, I used to ignore Adham’s deeds but now, the complaint is from the Palace. Adkha Khan says what happened was good, as we had an inkling about Adham’s deeds, so it’s good that the matter is in Court now. Take suggestion from everyone, but do what your heart says is right. Jalal thanks him for the advice.
Adham says to Maham in the room that how wise is his Mother and why did he not think of such plans?? Adham is sure that he would win Tasneem, Maham warns him not to be so excited and she is worried that Jalal had started thinking and so the importance of Chief Minister has lessened.
Hameeda Bano, Gulbadan and Jiji Anga discuss that Jalal-Jodha relations should not be affected by Jodha’s involvement in Tasneem-Adham’s fiasco. They are worried about their relationship.
Maham is in thoughts when Resham says don’t worry about Adham, Maham says I am thinking about Jodha, her antics are becoming greater day by day because Jalal is giving attention to her.
Jalal comes to Maham and says he is your Son, but I know you will give fair decision, but I think this matter is related to my family as one side is my Wife, and the other side is Adham, so I want to ask suggestions from my special wives. Maham says but there is only one special wife, Ruqaiya. Jalal says yes, but I want to ask Ruqaiya, Salima and Jodha. He leaves. Maham smiles that if there is more than one special wife, then there can be a huge storm.
All wives gather in harem. Maham comes and says not all wives are called, but only the special wives. Ruqaiya says there is only one special wife which is me. Maham says I know that, but Jalal’s thinking is not same. Ruqaiya says what joke is this?? Maham says I am just telling what Jalal told me, 3 wives are being called, one is Ruqaiya, other is Salima, and the third is jodha, all are stunned. Ruqaiya says you both go, I will come after talking to Maham.
Jodha and Salima comes outside. Salima is smiling, Jodha ask the reason, Salima says whenever there is problem coming, I start smiling. Jodha ask which problem? She says Jalal called me along with his special wife Ruqaiya, but I am happy that he called you also, she ask Jodha whether she did like Jalal trusting her? Jodha remains silent, Salima says sometimes, silence means yes.
Ruqaiya-Maham face off. Ruqaiya says she is very important for Jalal in political matters. Maham replies that she should leave the politics to her (Maham) and Ruqaiya should keep herself to Harem’s problem, besides, she was the one who asked Jalal not to give States to Adham. Ruqaiya says so you are taking revenge for that, and puts Maham down by saying she is just one Slave. Maham retorts that she is no more the begum e khaas(special wife) and There are two more. But his favourite Aunt is only one and for life. She tells Ruqiya that she could expect more Queens in Jalal’s life! Ruqaiya is stunned.
Jalal is standing with Salima and Jodha when Ruqaiya and Maham comes in. Maham says as per your order, they are here. Jalal says the matter is about the respect of a women and you 3 are wise, so I want your suggestion. Jalal says to Jodha that you wanted to tell something in Court, but Hamida stopped you, as you were the one who came with complaint but now, you are standing as my wife here, so tell what you want.
Jodha says I am thankful you considered me as your family. I am not against Maham or Adham, but I want to tell about the appalling way in which women are treated in the entire country by all religions. Women are treated like material things to be possessed, used, and discarded. If one is rich, he just buys women like material and if the Parents are poor, so they just sell her off to get money or to solve their problem but let me tell you, women are not a material, she is the one your daughter, your mother who gives birth to you, and your sister, then why this behavior with her?
Jalal says I understand your points, but it’s society rule that first, women have to follow their Parent’s order, then her husband, he ask for Salima’s suggestion.
Salima says according to the law, I think Maham is right and the Nikah/Marriage is done like this, but for women, Jodha has gotten a point.
Jalal ask for Ruqaiya’s suggestion. Maham says she know about Politics a lot, so she will agree with me. Ruqaiya says no, I am with Jodha, as it’s about women’s respect, it is totally injustice that we do Nikah of a girl that isn’t an adult yet, with aged man, I think you should talk to Tasnim, her decision should be final, Maham is stunned. Jalal orders Maham to bring Tasnim in Court tomorrow.
Jodha is sitting in her room and thinks about Salima’s words that I am happy that Jalal has started taking you as a special one. Jodha thinks I don’t know what’s in his mind, sometimes, he becomes angry and sometimes, he gives me respect, today, he included me in special…
Moti comes running and ask Jodha whether you are okay? Why we’re you called at this hour? Jodha says I am fine and wanted to talk with you. Moti says I am not your Servant but friend and sister also. Jodha says today, Jalal called me, Ruqaiya, Salima to talk about Adham-Tasnim. Moti ask so what? Jodha says he called his 3 special wives and I was one of them. Moti hugs her and says you deserve it. Jodha says but I don’t get it. Moti ask what’s your problem. You want to be special or not? Today, you will not sleep as this happen when you become special from common. Today, Jalal didn’t take this decision from mind, but from heart. Jodha looks at her.
Moti is about to leave, Jodha says I want to talk about Tasnim as well. Moti says Jalal thinks you are special, so he will give justice to Tasnim on your demand. She leaves. At night, Jodha can’t stop thinking about Jalal.
In the morning, Tasnim comes to the Court where all are present. Ruqaiya says don’t be afraid, Jalal wants to ask you something, Tasnim says my Parents have spoken. Jalal says but I want to talk to you as well. Jalal ask what do you know about Nikah/Marriage?
Tasnim says when the Priest ask, you just say I do and you get good clothes as well. Jalal ask do you want to do this Nikah/Marriage? Tasnim says yes. Jodha says these are only rituals, what do you know about the institution of marriage? She says you will get good food and will live in palace after marriage. Jalal says you only know this? She nods. He ask her to leave. Ruqaiya says to Jalal that I hope you got the answer, the decision is yours now.
Jalal is in thoughts. Other side, Jodha says Tasnim said yes to the Nikah under her Parent’s pressure, but only jalal can save that innocent girl now.
In Tasneem’s vilage, she is being called to play by her friends. She declines. Her friends find Tasneem crying. They ask her why? She was upset because of her marriage.
Jalal comes there in jewelry seller disguise… buy your fine jeweries!! Tasneem’s mother invites him in. She demands good bangles for her daughter who is getting married soo. Her mother is not worried about the cost as Adham Khan would give them lots of wealth.
Tasneem’s father is drinking and says Adham Khan had promised him kiledaar ka audha and endless supplies of alcohol.
Tasneem refuses to select bangles… She did not want to get married… She says Adham Khan is a very bad man. Her Parents slaps her and says that she had to let the money flow into their house and not stop because of her unwillingness! Tasneem says she had said yes in the Court because they had beaten her.
Jalal then scolds them for forcing their daughter against her wishes. They scream at the Bangles Seller(Jalal in disguise) and throw him out of the house. He also notices another child being married against her wishes to an elderly man.
Jalal comes back to the Palace, He witnesses the gardener saying how a young rose plant if transplanted would die. Adkha greets him. Jalal discusses with Adkha Khan about child marriages going on since ages. Adkha Khan says then new rules would have to be changed.
Jalal asks if his subjects would follow his rules? Jalal then says he would make rules against child marriages. Adham Khan over hears Jalal-Atgha Khan discussion and says that so this was the plan… To make rules against child marriages. He thinks of a plan that would shock Jalal and everyone else.
Jalal comes to the Court where all are present, Jalal says I took 1 day to take the decision but now, I will give the verdict, I wanted to go to the depth of this matter, so it took me one day, history witnessed that many Kings changed many rules, my father also did that and now, I am changing the rule of early marriges of girls. The rule is that girls can’t be married before 14 years of age. All are stunned, Jodha and Ruqaiya are happy. Jalal says this rule will be implimented to all states, religion and caste.
Adkha Khan present written rule to a Priest and he accepts it saying it’s a good rule. Jalal signs the rule and says now, Adham can’t marry Tasnim.
Adham says I have an objection to this rule, this is injustice. Adkha Khan says remember you are talking to the King! Maham interrupts and says Adham has all the right to present his point. Jalal ask Adham to speak. Adham says this rule is out, but there would still be marriages in all over the country of young girls. My case was presented when this rule was not there, so it is not implimented on me.
Jalal says rules are for everyone, Adham says so it should be implimented on Jalal as well. Adkha Khan says enough, King has imunity to all rules. He is the law maker. He is zil e ilahi (God’s Shadow). Only he has the right to change rules or impliment them. King is the shadow of God!
Adham says if shadow doesn’t follow rules, then what will people think? The Priest says we agree with Adkha. Jalal says but Adham has got a point. Jalal says I announce that I will follow this rule, I will not marry a young girl. All are happy. Adham says very good but you have already commited a sin. You married immature girl, Ruqaiya. She was just 9 years when you married her, so isn’t it an ilegal marriage?
Jalal shouts Adham???? Maham is about to slap Adham when he stops her and says you are not my Mother here, but the Chief Minister, so you can’t punish me, only Jalal can. I think if this rule is applied to all, so the marriages before it should be considered as ilegal.
Ruqaiya is furious and she comes in the middle of the Court and asks how dare he declare Senior Queen as illegal???
Adham Khan says coolly that he was following the orders as per rule. Adham Khan says the King of Kings shlould accept the new rules and declare his marriage to Ruqaiya as illegal. He should give Divorce to Ruqaiya and obey the rules.
In Jalal’s room. All special women are present. Ruqaiya shouts that Adham said total rubbish! He insulted me and asked you to give me divorce, why didn’t you stop him?? Was your sword suddenly heavy there and Hamida Bano also didn’t say a word for me. Hamida says it’s a rule of the Court that the person can’t present his point.
Ruqaiya says but he insulted me, Hamida always stands for Jodha and Jalal, on Jodha’s request, changed the rule which made fun of our relationship. Jodha tries to say something, but Ruqaiya cuts her off and says it’s all because of Jodha.
Jalal says listen. Ruqaiya says oh! now you can’t listen to a word said against Jodha? Jalal says listen to me. I didn’t do anything there, as I was a King, I know I ignored all his deeds, as he was my brother, but this time, he did a big thing.
Ruqaiya says it means you will divorce me. Both are pained. Ruqaiya angrily tells Jalal that Jodha had complained, so he had changed the rules of the Sultanat just to please Jodha, Now, she wanted the King of Kings to be strong enough to make new rules because now, Ruqaiya herself would complain against the King of Kings! She wants to see what decision Jalal would take! She challenges Jalal, Jodha is shocked and Jalal is also surprised. She leaves.
Adham Khan is drinking when Maham comes. Adham says beat me, beat me. Maham says I would have beheaded you, how can you think of this divorce? Adham says I listened to Adkha-Jalal’s discussion. Maham kisses his forehead. Maham says you thought like me. Now we have to watch what Jalal will do, take Jodha’s side and give divorce to Ruqaiya, in that case, all the blame will be on Jodha. Or if he doesn’t give the divorce, then you will get Tasnim. Adham says but he can do Nikah with Ruqaiya again.
Maham says he can’t as it’s against the law. Ruqaiya will have to do Nikah with other man, spend sometime with him, then take divorce only then, can Jalal marry her again and this will not be accepted by both. Maham is happy and proud of Adham and salutes him.
Jodha is sad in her room and says to Moti that I curse my fate. Whenever I try do something good, wrong happens. I tried to save Tasnim, but end up hurting Ruqaiya. Ruqaiya is rightly angry , she loves Jalal a lot and her relationship is being questioned because of me. Moti says it’s all because of that Adham, Jalal should have just punished him in Court. Jodha says I am thinking about Ruqaiya, I hurt her. Moti says you didn’t. Jodha says I know whose mistake this is. Moti ask who? Jodha says leave it, go sleep. Moti goes. Jodha cries with pain in her eyes.
Jalal is in thoughts and thinks this matter is getting entangled day by day, 1st Jodha’s complaint, then Adham’s Nikah proposal and divorce, then Ruqaiya’s furiousity. Suddenly, Hoshiyar comes crying and says Ruqaiya has become uncontrolable. Jalal goes to her and sees her room being messed up. He ask what is this?
Ruqaiya says why can’t you see my heart burning, you thought about Jodha’s complaint, Adham’s point, people’s welfare, but what about our relationship? She accuses Jalal that he gave utmost importance to Jodha’s problems… He listened to every word of Adham even when he insulted her (Ruqaiya) in full Court only when it was the matter of Ruqaiya his childhood friend, his wife, his partner in happiness, in his good and bad times… How could he allow this to happen to her? She is inconsolable. I always gave suggestion in political matters and now, my relationship is at stake. Jalal says it doesn’t suit you, control yourself. You are a Queen.
