Gangaa says that a Maiyya (mother) loves her kids so much. She makes her kids wear new clothes, get all dressed up, then why would this Maiyya tell her kids to wear white clothes? Amma ji asks her if she will compare humans to Goddess now. Gangaa says all of you are humans. How do you know what Maiyya is thinking then? How did you understand what’s going on in her mind? Amma ji and everyone look at her in amazement / speechlessly. Amma ji has no answer for her questions. Don’t argue; this just cannot happen! Gangaa has understood it that everyone is fooling her / lying to her as they don’t want her to wear her beautiful clothes and jewels. Amma ji realises that they are the culprit. See what I do with them now. She picks up Gangaa’s stuff and walks out of the temple. Gangaa follows her, asking her to return her clothes to her. Where are you taking them?
Amma ji and Gangaa comes home. Gangaa pulls at the little bag. My Bappa had brought them for me. I got them from Sudha after so much difficulty and now, you have taken them. Sagar too tells her Dadi to give Gangaa’s stuff back to her, but she tells him not to interfere in the matter. No one will say anything. She goes to her room. Madhvi stops Sagar from following Dadi. She is very angry.
Amma ji locks Gangaa’s stuff in one of her trunks. Gangaa asks for it, but Amma ji sticks to her point. She keeps the trunk on the top of the cupboard in her room (out of Gangaa’s reach). They are of no use to you. You will neither get these things nor this key. She ties the key at the tip of her saree. Gangaa very boldly asks for the key. Amma ji vows not to give it back to Gangaa till her last breath. You are staring at me? Gangaa walks toward her, without blinking her eyes even. One day you will give them back to me on your own. They were given to me by my Bappa. I will take them one day. I won’t leave them at all. Amma ji looks at her wide eyed. Gangaa leaves.
Sagar rushes to Gangaa. Has Dadi kept your stuff? Gangaa leaves from there without saying anything. Madhvi stops him from following Gangaa. He walks up to his Dadi angrily. Why didn’t you give Gangaa’s stuff to her? Her Bappa had brought them for her. Return all that to her as soon as possible. Dadi is angry that Sagar is talking to her like this for a girl whom he doesn’t even know properly. Sagar refuses to calm down even when Madhvi tells him to. You (Dadi) will also feel bad if someone takes your things, right? Madhvi stops him. He leaves from there sadly. You are very bad Dadi. Amma ji scolds / taunts Madhvi for not teaching anything good to Sagar. He doesn’t even know how to talk to elders. You have spoilt him. Madhvi denies it. You know I never teach anything wrong to the kids. I in fact stop them from doing so. Amma ji is not interested in her explanations. She heads back to her room.
Gangaa recalls Amma ji’s words sadly. She still has that little potli (purse) tied around her waist. She looks at the little cycle show piece inside it. One day, she had cried as Munakka had stolen all the fruits that she had gathered. I told him not to do it, but he fought with me and took them with him. Her Bappa had explained that tears don’t solve any problem. I know Munakka was wrong, but nothing can happen if you get so upset about it. He made a small loss, but you are making a bigger loss by wasting your precious tears like this. Always remember one thing, that the world can snatch anything, but they cannot snatch anyone’s fate. Someone can snatch your things forcefully, but no one can snatch your smile. They share a cute moment then. Flashback ends.
Sagar comes there. He is relieved to see her smile again. She tells him what her Bappa had told her once. I won’t let anyone snatch anything from me when I grow up. Sagar appreciates her. you are very brave. He explains the meaning to her and smiles.
Gangaa sets the table while Maharaj ji brings the food. Door bell rings. Maharaj ji sends Gangaa to see who is here. Gangaa receives an envelope. Maharaj ji asks her if it is urgent. She has no idea. He tells her to keep it on the table and resume her work. She does as she is told.
It is 2 pm. Madhvi gets a call from Raghav ji. An important courier was to come home today. They are to be presented in the court. They are not here so I thought of checking at home. She denies it. Raghav ji ends the call then. Maharaj ji comes to ask Madhvi about the dinner menu? She in turn asks him if a courier has come? He tells her about the courier which Gangaa had received. She points out that it is mentioned on the courier that it is to be delivered as soon as possible to Niranjan. Maharaj ji says Gangaa had said that it is a letter. Amma ji asks him if Gangaa will decide what’s important or not in the house? She sends him to deliver it to Niranjan quickly. Madhvi informs Raghav ji as well. The hearing is due in 10 minutes.
Amma ji taunts Gangaa. You didn’t share it intentionally. You are concerned only about your jewels and clothes. Why would you tell? Madhvi is tensed as they have very less time.
Niranjan asks for the documents from Raghav ji. Maharaj ji is stuck in traffic. Niranjan decides to go to court without those papers only as it will be contempt of court otherwise. Maharaj ji reaches there just when Niranjan heads to the court. Maharaj ji is tensed.
At home, Maharaj ji narrates the entire incident to Amma ji and everyone. Amma ji is worried for her son. These papers are very important. Niranjan and Raghav ji come home just then. He scolds Madhvi for not sending the papers on time. My hard work of months went for a toss in a minute. Please give them to me now at least. Maharaj ji gives it to him. Why didn’t you send them when they were delivered at the house? Why did you take so much time? Didn’t you realise the urgency of it after looking at the envelope? Amma ji tells him to question the real culprit and not Madhvi. Gangaa is the one who was careless. Niranjan points out that they all were also at home at that time. Why are you blaming her then? He turns to Madhvi. Please take care of this next time. If anything comes at home in my name then it should reach me at the very same time only. Madhvi nods. Gangaa watches everything from a distance.
Niranjan tells Madhvi to be careful as from next time. If anything comes at home in my name then it should reach me at the very same time only. Madhvi nods. Gangaa watches everything from a distance. Both Niranjan and Raghav ji go inside. Amma ji finds his style weird. The girl makes mistakes, but he takes it out on everyone else instead. Everyone goes to do their work. Gangaa holds the pillar tightly, trying to hide herself more, when Amma ji looks in her direction. Amma ji leaves. Sagar too notices Gangaa, but runs in the opposite direction instead.
Sagar comes to the kitchen to talk to his Mom. Dadi is not sparing Gangaa at all. How would that poor girl understand the importance of the documents? I will tell everything to Papa. Madhvi tells him against it. He is already tensed, don’t add up to his problems. Gangaa overhears this.
Maharaj ji is taking the tea and snacks to Niranjan’s study, but Sagar stops him. Don’t even go before Papa right now. You reached late in court so he will still be upset with you. Maharaj ji finds logic in his words and gives the tray to him. Sagar in turn gives the tray to Gangaa. Tell everything to Papa and say sorry as well. Gangaa nods.
Raghav ji tells Niranjan not to worry so much. We are prepared for our next hearing now at least. Niranjan agrees. I shouted at Madhvi for no reason. Gangaa comes there with the tray. Raghav ji takes it from her. Niranjan and Gangaa look at each other. Gangaa apologizes to him. Your work was hampered because of my mistake. He corrects her. It just got postponed for a while. It will all be fine. She is relieved and amazed. He smiles. He pats her cheek lovingly. He explains to Gangaa that she should have sent it to him at once, as it was mentioned over the envelope. He realises that she doesn’t know how to read it. She tells him what little she can read. He asks her if she has ever gone to school? Ganga says no. Bappa had registered my name in the village school, but…Niranjan tells Raghav ji to come with him right away. Gangaa looks on.
At night, Amma ji is boiling milk. Gangaa comes there. She scolds Ganga for creating so many problems at home. Niranjan could have lost the case today because of you. Gangaa is about to go out to clean the Prayer utensils when Niranjan stops her. I have to talk to you about something. Sit here. I had gone out with Raghav ji to make arrangements so you can study too. Amma ji questions him about it. Do you have extra money that you want to spend on her? Who will do my work if she studies? A widow has nothing to do with studies anyway. Tell some priest to make her understand the scriptures somehow. That will be all. Niranjan says that will follow, but Gangaa should study first. Whatever happened today would not have happened if Gangaa knew how to study. Education is as important as food in today’s time to survive. Gangaa will surely study. Amma ji is completely against it. She says Gangaa is always thinking differently. These studies will just add up to it. I won’t let it happen. I wont let you do anything as per your wish. Niranjan sticks to his point. No one can stop me this time. I won’t listen to anyone on this matter. Gangaa will study. Amma ji is surprised. You are threatening me? He denies it. This is not a warning. It is just my opinion.
Amma ji calls out for Madhvi and walks out of the room. She complains to her for the way Niranjan is talking to her / challenging her. Everyone else comes out too. Amma ji says when my own Son is not listening to me, then why would anyone else abide by my words? She is shouting really loudly. Niranjan tells her against it, but in vain. They both continue to stick to their point of views. He talks about the importance of education, while she refuses to let Gangaa study anything, but scriptures. You are comparing this girl to my grandsons? He reasons that every child has a right to study. I won’t agree to your condition. Gangaa will study for sure! She decides to give up on food and water if he won’t agree with her. I will go on a fast from henceforth (for an indefinite period). He leaves the choice to her. It all comes to the same thing in the end, but this time I am not going to fall for your emotional blackmail. He leaves from there. Madhvi too follows him, trying to talk to him. Amma ji blames Gangaa for creating so many disturbances in their home. I had predicted it long back, but only she will bear the sin of it all. She stares at Gangaa.
Madhvi tries to make Niranjan understand that his way of talking was not right. Amma ji would have been hurt. We too would have felt the same if it was Sagar or Pulkit in your place and you in Amma ji’s place. He too doesn’t like it, but he knows that he is right. She reasons that Amma ji will take some time to change her outlook. Her ideas are a little old for today. He cannot wait for Amma ji to change her mentality and keep Gangaa at home till then (not studying). What if she asks me this question when she grows up? Madhvi says says you could have been a little more soft / polite with her. You both got upset at the same time and refused to understand each other’s point of view. You know how stubborn she is. I am worried that she might try to put her words into action. She is old. Body is not strong in this age. What if something happens to her? He gets thinking.
Pulkit explains the logic behind Amma ji’s words to Sagar and Gangaa. This will be an indefinite fast. Sagar knows that his father is very strict about studies. He never listens to anyone else on this matter. He won’t even listen to Dadi. What would happen then? Gangaa runs out of the room suddenly.
Niranjan decides to talk to Amma ji tomorrow morning. I will try to be all calm and cool when I talk to her. Gangaa walks in and goes near Niranjan. Why are you fighting with Amma ji because of me? She’s right. Who will help her if I will go to school? The expenses would be too much, right! Leave it. He tells her not to worry about the expenses. That is my job. She doesn’t want him to do anything that can upset Amma ji. It is my duty to help her. He assures her that he will talk to Amma ji. She says let it be, it isn’t important for me to study. He asks her if there is something else to it which is why she’s saying so? She is all quiet. She says Amma ji will stay hungry and eventually fall ill. I won’t like it. Madhvi says Amma ji was angry when she said all that. We won’t sit back and watch it all quietly if she does anything like that. He again reassures her that everything will be fine by morning. She insists upon not going to school, but he stops her. Everyone must study. You too should study like Sagar and Pulkit. Your Bappa too had registered your name in the school, so why won’t you go now? Tell me the reason. She doesn’t really want to study.
Gangaa runs out of the room without telling anything to anyone. Niranjan is confused. Madhvi feels that maybe Gangaa is worried about the expenses which Amma ji had spoken about. Maybe this is the reason why she is saying no. Niranjan nods. Gangaa loves her self respect. It might have hurt her or which kid won’t like to go to school?
At night, Gangaa is sleeping. She thinks of an incident (in her sleep) when her village teacher had beaten her on her hand with a stick, when she had not written anything properly. She wakes up with a start and looks at her palm. Hanuman ji please save me. I don’t want to go to school. I remember everything. The village master used to beat me a lot with the stick. Please save me, I don’t want to go through all that again. I will be saved only when Sir (Niranjan) listens
to Amma ji. Amma ji notices her awake. Why haven’t you slept yet? Are you not happy that my Son fought with me because of you? These fights have started in the house since you have come here. There is a new fight every day. Everyone keeps supporting only you so you are stubborn. God knows when you will change for good. Sleep now. Gangaa nods. Amma ji thinks of Niranjan’s words.
Next morning, Amma ji returns from Ganga snan. She tells maharaj ji to bring Prayer plate for her. Madhvi too readies a plate full of fruits for her. She shows them the plate. Amma ji steps forward to check the plate, but stops as she recalls her vow. You are trying to over smart me? You were trying to make a joke of me by breaking my indefinite fast! Madhvi suggests her not to give up food or water in this age. Amma ji cuts her off midsentence. I don’t want any suggestion from you. Explain the right and wrong to your husband. Madhvi goes upstairs. Gangaa helps Amma ji in drying the laundry. She thinks of an idea. Will you read Ramayan for me? I will learn it quickly. Bappa had made me learn the aarti in a similar manner. I used to sing it daily. You are right. There is no need to go to school. Amma ji replies that she is always right, but you never listen to me. What happened to you today? Gangaa says I abide by whatever you say. She brings offering for Amma ji. Amma ji thinks that she too wants her to break her fast. I am all alone. Gangaa insists that she is on her side. Amma ji refuses to fall for her words. Gangaa wants Sir (Niranjan) to agree with her actually. I myself don’t want to study. Amma ji murmurs that the one who should be worried must be pacing angrily in his room.
Madhvi informs Niranjan about Amma ji sticking to her words. You should go and talk to her, convince her. She won’t listen to me. She wants her Son to come and talk to her. He knows that his mother is waiting for only him. It is easier to make kids agree / understand things but that is not the case with Amma ji. He gives his phone to Madhvi, asking her to try Raghav ji’s number. I am not able to get through.
Amma ji is reading Ramayan. She looks towards the door in between. Gangaa knows that she is waiting for Sir (Niranjan). Amma ji denies it. Niranjan comes there just then. Gangaa notices him. She is about to tell Amma ji when he signals to her against it. He very quietly walks inside and holds Amma ji’s shoulder. She immediately tries to focus on the Ramayana, but then gets up from there when he doesn’t let go of her. He signals to Gangaa to wait outside. Gangaa prays that Amma ji should do something that will prompt Sir (Niranjan) to listen to her. I don’t want to go to school.
Niranjan says I am a father of two kids. It won’t look good if I do sit ups before you in this age. You can tell me any other punishment that you have in mind. She says I am no one to say anything to you. She repeats her vow, but he refuses to let anything happen to his beloved Mother. She refuses to open her mouth, so he decides to transfer food in her body through drips or any other medical way. She refuses. He makes up his mind to feed her something first and only then will he listen to whatever she has to say. Gangaa points out to him that the fruits and milk is in the kitchen. He goes out to bring them. Amma ji looks at Gangaa. You are enjoying it, right?
Niranjan happily tells Maharaj ji to get the plate. Amma ji has agreed to eat. Madhvi gives him his phone. Raghav ji is on the line. He tells him that the judge has met with an accident. I am here. He needs B+ blood. Your blood group is the same. Niranjan agrees and leaves for City Hospital.
