TUESDAY UPDATE ON GANGAA, 18TH OF DECEMBER 2018

At night, Madhvi tries to feed Sagar, but he refuses to budge from his decision. I won’t even take my medicine. Amma ji looks on. Madhvi requests her to let Gangaa come back. Sagar has to take his medicine as well. I cannot see him like this. His health might worsen. Amma ji refuses. It is pointless to change my decision. Madhvi says I have been accepting your every wish till now, but today it is about my son. She promises Sagar that it is late today, but they will go and bring Gangaa back tomorrow morning. Sagar’s face lights up. He finally eats something. Amma ji feels helpless too. You don’t realise that he stopped eating food for that Gangaa today. What will he do tomorrow? He might leave us. You will regret it. Gangaa’s return will only invite destruction into our house.
Gangaa thinks of how Amma j has been against letting her stay in Chaturvedi House since the beginning. She unpacks her clothes. She looks at her palms. She keeps her saree back in her potli (purse), but Amma ji’s words keep echoing in her head. She looks out of the window. She thinks of Sagar telling her that she will always stay with him. Will I never see Sagar again? Will I never be able to meet Sir, Sagar, Madhvi, Pulkit ever again? Amma ji’s words taunts/haunt her. Why did Amma ji say so? Would it mean I have no shame? I am not like that. I will have to do something.
Sagar is happy as he will be going to bring Gangaa tomorrow. We will all live together then.
Next day, Sudha tells Sagar that Gangaa left in a rush. She said that she will go to some other ghaat to take bath. She should have been back by now. Sagar cannot waste time. I will find her on the way and take her with me. He rushes out. Sudha thinks of Amma ji’s words.
Amma ji is going for the morning bath. The same dog (Moti) is in her way. She thinks of the last time when Gangaa had helped her. Gangaa comes there just then. He knows you now. He is wagging his tail. Amma ji asks her to shoo him away. Gangaa does so. Moti goes away. Amma ji asks her what she’s doing here? You thought you will request me and come with me? This cannot happen. Sagar looks on from a distance. Gangaa denies it. I just came to meet you. You were right. That house is yours. You did not like it when Sir brought me home the first time. You opposed him, but had to give up. The same will happen today. I don’t want Sir and you to fight. I don’t like it. You don’t want me to come to your house. I will not come to your house until you come to take me with you!

It is your house, so you will only decide who will live there and who won’t. I will come there only when you ask me to come. It will surely happen.
Sagar is worried. Dadi will never do it. I wonder why she is acting so arrogant? Gangaa challenges Amma ji. This worries Sagar all the more. Why did she have to say all this? She is already upset with you. I too won’t be able to do anything now. Why did you do it? I don’t know if you will come back ever again or not. Amma ji calls it Gangaa’s ego. It will take you down one day. You cannot come to my house as long as I am alive. Go to the Ashram. Spend the rest of your life there! Sagar interrupts them. Come with me Gangaa. Papa has sent me. Gangaa refuses to go with him. Amma ji repeats her words. This girl will never step inside my house, neither today or ever! She walks away.
Sagar reprimands Gangaa for doing what she did. She will never do it. Gangaa says you always misunderstand me. He calls her arrogant again. I came to fulfil my promise. She points out that she was not being arrogant. Think what you want to, but I will only come home when Amma ji comes to take me. She leaves. Sagar shouts after her. You don’t have to come back. I will live without you.
In the ashram, Gangaa justifies her act. Bappa used to say that one should lilve with self-respect and not live on anyone’s pity. Sudha tells her that Amma ji will never come to take her. Pishi Ma says the world does not even looks at widows. Gangaa explains that she is still alive. I will live only with respect. Sudha thinks that these big words will take her down one day. Mamta says she will understand with time. Sudha denies it. I will have to be stricter than before, so she realises things fast. She is a widow. She has to accept it if she has to live here. I want her to go to that house. We all are dead, but she wants to live. She will not find it here, but in that family. I will have to be very strict with her for the very same reason. I will have to show her the worst form of our life so she gives up on her arrogance and apologizes to Amma ji.
Amma ji notices a girl wearing modern clothes. She rushes towards a guy. Amma ji mistakes it that she was looking at her. She drops the blessing tray from her hands by mistake. The girl lounges at the guy and threatens him to behave with girls the next time. Amma ji mutters that the girl is stupid. She does not even know how to talk to others. The girl tries to help Amma ji, but she pushes her hand away. The girl is surprised at this gesture. Amma ji advises her to act like a girl. This will suit you. The girl questions her if this was written in some book? Did you not notice how the kid was behaving? Amma ji walks away muttering to herself. The girl thinks of her as an angry old woman. She must be lecturing all the girls in her house day and night. She has lost the address.
Madhvi gets to know that Gangaa has refused to come home. Niru justifies Gangaa’s stance. She knows that you don’t like it that she lives here. No person with self-respect will like it ever. She won’t compromise with it ever. Amma ji calls her arrogant and ill mannered. Niru replies that she too is arrogant. You made a very big mistake by stopping her from coming home. Rectify it by bringing her home. Amma ji asks him if he wants her to apologise to that girl? Is this how you respect me? Madhvi tries to control them, but in vain. Niru tries to make his Mother understand, but she thinks that he will always take Gangaa’s side. I too have a right to voice my opinion. She will not come back here in this house ever again and no one will talk about her. Sagar seconds her. She is not my friend. I had gone to bring her, but she doesn’t want to come back. Why force her? I have decided not to think of her or to talk to her. Madhvi tries to make him understand, but Amma ji shushes her from taking Gangaa’s side. Finally, Sagar can see things clearly. Don’t feed him nonsense. Niru reasons that Sagar should understand the difference between right and wrong. Amma ji cuts him off. Sagar is right. You both are blinded by your love for that girl. Niru walks out of the house in a huff. He forgets to take his lunch box. Amma ji asks Maharaj ji to take it to the court. Amma ji goes to her room to bring money to give to Sagar. Meanwhile, Sagar tries to ask why he is saying so? Sagar says I will have to forget her if she does not want to come back. Why should I think of her? He leaves.
Sudha stops Gangaa from going to school. You will come with us to ask for alms in the afternoon. This is your only way to survive if you want to live in this Ashram. Gangaa refuses to beg or eat alms, but Sudha stays put. You are a widow. You will have to follow our rules if you have to live here. You will have to listen to me! Gangaa declines. You are wrong. I am not like you. I am different. I will not live like you all do. I will live off nicely. Mamta questions her. You are scared to see us begging for alms. You do not have such a strong will power. How will you spend your life if you don’t do it? Pishi Ma too says the same thing. Gangaa takes her bag and leaves. Sudha shouts after her. You will have to come with us. You will have to do what I am telling you! I will drag you with me. Pishi Ma asks Sudha if they are not being a little too strict with Gangaa? Sudha denies it. If she has made up her mind to live here, then she will have to bear this in future or else, she can apologize to Amma ji and go back. No one will stop her.
Amma ji gives instructions to Maharaj ji and Mehri about tomorrow (something related to the Death Anniversary). Sagar thinks of Gangaa. She is also a lady. She too will have to do this. But why should I worry about her when she isn’t staying here anymore? He goes to freshen up. Amma ji tells Madhvi that no one should eat outside food on Death Anniversary day. Even guests should not come in such times. But Prabha walks inside the house anytime. Guests bring Pitr-dosh (Remedies and Curse). The girl walks inside Chaturvedi House asking for Niru? Amma ji is irked to see her, but Madhvi recognizes her.

The girl walks inside Chaturvedi House asking for Niru? Amma ji is irked seeing her, but Madhvi recognizes her. Madhvi runs to give her sister a hug. Madhvi’s Sister goes quiet to see Amma ji there. Madhvi introduces them to each other. It is my Cousin, Sister Barkha. Barkha apologizes to Amma ji for the morning incident. She politely asks Mehri to keep her bag inside. Amma ji looks at Madhvi. Is she going to stay here? Madhvi nods. Barkha asks for food. Mehri tells Amma ji that the bag is very heavy. Amma ji deduces that maybe she came to live here for too long! Till when will this problem stay in my house?
Sudha insists upon Gangaa accompaning her. Gangaa clearly tells her that she is not a coward. She comes there holding a potli (purse), all set to go with Sudha and the other ladies. I am not even scared of hard
work. You don’t even have to drag me forcefully. Bappa used to say that one needs a lot of strength to live with respect. I have that much willpower. I don’t fear anything. Let’s go. Sudha taunts her. Find out how hard we have to work to arrange the food that you so arrogantly decline to eat. Mamta talks highly of the man. He always gives something or the other to us widows. We never return empty handed from this house. Sudha warns Gangaa not to create any drama there. Don’t utter anything wrong too. The Man asks Gangaa to spread her cloth so he can give her fruits and other stuffs. Gangaa replies that she has not come here to beg. Why should I do it then? All the ladies get tensed. Gangaa says I don’t need alms. The man questions Gangaa why she has come here then? God took your husband. I pity you all and look at this arrogant girl. No one will come here as from tomorrow. Sudha says sorry to him,but he dismisses them. Sudha scolds Gangaa for replying. Gangaa cannot understand why they have to beg. Let us do some work. We can get money and then buy stuff for ourselves. It is wrong to beg. Sudha agrees to do things as per her wish for today.
Barkha sits outside as she relishes the food cooked by Madhvi. Her studies of medical are over. She is waiting for her degree. Madhvi tries to take her inside when Amma ji comes there. Barkha offers her halwa (Sweets). You need sweets. Amma ji advises Madhvi to make her sister understand the rules of this house. Barkha again addresses her as aunty, but Amma ji wants her to call her Amma ji only. Barkha finds it boring. I will call you Ams. Mehri thinks that Amma ji will scold her now. Amma ji insists upon following the rules, but Barkha points out that rules are made to be broken. Relax! Maharaj ji is also scared as no one as spoken to Amma ji like this. She goes to take more halwa (Sweets). Amma ji sends Maharaj ji to the kitchen to help Barkha. Madhvi apologises to Amma ji on her sister’s behalf. She has never lived this way. I will teach her everything. Amma ji makes it clear to her that everyone has to abide by the rules of this house. No one can break them. One girl went and now another one is here!
Sudha approaches a lady for work. The lady taunts Sudha. Do anything, but I won’t let even your shadow into my house. The lady turns to go when Gangaa holds her feet. The lady looks at her in shock / anger. It is wrong to beg. Why did you tell Aunt Sudha to do so? Why don’t you give her work when she has asked for it? She is talking so sweetly, while you are so rude. The lady asks Gangaa to leave her. I will have to purify everything now. She summons her servants. I will have to take a bath again. This is the sin of your last birth’s karma that you became a widow in such a young age. Go away! She leaves. Sudha asks Gangaa if she is satisfied now or not? Gangaa retorts that they didn’t become widows as per their wish. I didn’t do anything wrong. Sudha says this is what I was trying to make you understand. When will you accept this truth of your life? This is the way the society treats widows!
Mamta asks for work from someone, but the man makes his servant push them away. All the people close their doors on the faces of the widows when they asks for work.
Sagar thinks of Amma ji’s words. Will Gangaa also do this puja (Prayer)? She is also a widow. Yash come to invite him to play. Sagar wonders if Gangaa went to school today or not? Aunt Sudha is very strict. He runs to the ashram. He peeks in from a distance. The door of the ashram is closed from inside. He looks at the ball that he is holding. He aims it towards the door. It reaches Pishi Ma. He goes to pick it. She knows that he has come to meet Gangaa. He denies it. We were playing cricket when the ball came here. Gangaa will anyways be in school. Sagar gets to know that Gangaa has gone to beg. He runs from there.
Gangaa still does not want to beg. Sudha reasons that no one is giving them work even after begging everyone. Mamta adds that they have to collect as much alms as they can today. Gangaa corrects her. It is begging. Sudha makes Gangaa sit on the stairs. We have been insulted enough today because of you. They all move ahead. Gangaa is sad to think that no one is giving any work to Aunt Sudha and the other ladies. We too can work just like Mehri. She looks at two kids sharing chocolates. She thinks of Sagar, Madhvi and Niru. She smiles.
A drunken man holds Sudha’s hand as he tries to give her fruits. No one will give you so much stuff. He holds Sudha’s hand forcefully. Gangaa cannot take it. She throws a stone at him. The man holds his head as he experiences pain.
